Cult of peresonality

Politico reports, via Weasel Zipper that “Actor Brad Pitt was in ‘respectful awe’ when he visited President Obama in the Oval Office in March 2009, Jodi Kantor reports in ‘The Obamas’.”

“Though the star is so confident in his public life, he “barely said a thing, and he seemed overcome by meeting the president,” Kantor says.”

In the interest of full disclosure and considering that Kantor is a NY Times writer and that Brad Pitt is a very liberal Obama sycophant, let us assume that this is near truthful.

I fact I think it is quite so.

I do not doubt that an intellectual light weight like Pitt would act in such a fashion, and I think there are some unsettling facets to the cult of personality that is slavishly engaged in by such democrats of nearly all stripes; yet I find it curious that this pathetic fawning does not occur among hard-core left-wingers and dedicated socialist operatives.

Clearly most democrat voters fall into the uh, pit, of a worshipful cult.

Due primarily to having been a newspaper reporter, I have met or been in close proximity to more than my share of the famous as well as the infamous including two presidents, two future presidents, military brass, scores of Medal of Honor Recipients, numerous actors, entertainers, sports figures, writers, journalists, and so on.

I have been impressed, amused, pleased, disappointed, wary, inspired, cautious, and a lot of other things, but never had the reaction that Brad Pitt, certainly no stranger to the powerful and famous, seems to have had for the “Chicago Jesus”.

Apparently Pitt wasn’t bowled over by meeting the president… I’m sure he’s met as many as I have; he was bowled over by meeting Obama. But why?

I believe that this encounter as reported reveals more about Pitt as a “useful idiot” than it does about the 44th president.

This what we have come to as a nation… we have hired a singularly unqualified unknown to fill the most powerful position in the world using the same criteria used by 12 year-old girls devoted to Justin Bieber.

“Patient Zero” of this pandemic cult outbreak is clearly MSNBC’s Chris Matthews — who, in the past, has both cried over an Obama speech and compared him to Jesus — described exactly what happens to him after a 2008 Obama speech:

“I have to tell you, you know, it’s part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama’s speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don’t have that too often.”

Yes, Matthews way above average in his cultish behavior, which I think is based largely in his clearly not-so-repressed homosexuality, but he is a perfect example of how this man was elected…. Obama received the majority of electoral votes based anything and everything other than a pragmatic assessment of his qualifications.

And that’s what separates young Bieber from Barack Hussein Obama… worshiping Bieber mostly just annoys parents of young teens who have made him a multi-millionaire, while the Obama cult of personality has a good chance of destroying America.

Most narcissists with a cult following, are cynical connivers well aware of what they are trying to pull off:

  • Father Coughlin a fire brand radio huckster who had quite a following in the 20s-30s
  • Aimee Semple McPherson a radio evangelist  who of course “healed” through her powers and made herself a tidy income in the process
  • and…. any number of recent TV evangelists.

On the darker side, there is Charles Manson and Jim Jones who helped murder hundreds of cultists who even poisoned their own children on his say-so.

Obama, on the other hand, is actually a member of his own cult; he truly believes that he is exactly what his worshipers believe he is.

“This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”

To my mind Obama’s cult of personality  falls more closely in line with Scientology:

  • Scientologists believe that 75 million years ago Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling DC 8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and detonated hydrogen bombs in the volcanoes.
  • Democrats believe that unemployment benefits create jobs and that dedicated Muslim jihadists can be reasoned with.

Obama actually believers he is the Savior… and clearly looks beyond the presidency for something more important, more worthy of his gifts.

Cults exist and invariably do great harm because the followers are devoid of critical thinking, reject their own values and beliefs, depend entirely on emotion rather than reason, refuse to question the cult leader’s behaviors, decisions or statements, and like the 80 year-old lady seeking to save Oral Roberts from certain death at the hand of God, will even give the cult figure money, possessions, gifts in the extreme.

For well over 200 years Americans have been the “show me” kind of skeptics when it comes to damned near anything… let the Russians fall for communism, let the Spaniards fall for Franco, the French for DeGaulle and the Germans for Hitler… but never my fellow countrymen.

… not until now.
